The Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), led by China National Committee for Chinese Proficiency Test, The Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, is a national standardized test to assess the Chinese language proficiency of non-native speakers. It has been recently modified with reference to various international language tests and the evaluation and assessment by professionals from education, linguistics, psychology, and so forth on the current Chinese learning classes so as to make HSK to become more standardized and internationally recognized. The following is a comparison between the new HSK and the Chinese Language Proficiency Scales for Speakers of Other Languages and The Common European Framework Reference for Language (CEF)
The new HSK consists of two independent parts, which are written test and speaking test, with written test ranging from level 1 to level 6 whereas the speaking test ranges from HSK (Beginner), HSK (Intermediate) to HSK (Advanced). The proposed dates for the HSK Test in the year 2012 are as follows:

Registration Methods 1. Registration can be done in person at the Centre. Registration form can be downloaded from our website or obtained from our Centre. 2. Registration documents include the followings: (ii) Test fee - please deposit the test fees into the bank account of The University of Hong Kong at HSBC. The account number is 002-222-834-001. After depositing, please print your name, test title , and the test account code: 20005387.91000.10084.400.01 at the back of the original receipt. ***Please issue two separate receipts for the test fees. One for the written test and one for the speaking test. ***Please be reminded that if applicants have forgotten to obtain the bank receipt for the deposit, applicants need to contact our Centre immediately and apply at the bank for a letter of proof of the transaction. Please note that apart from the bank receipt, the letter of proof of the transaction from the bank and the acknowledgment page from the internet banking, our Centre WILL NOT ACCEPT any other kinds of proof of transaction for the payment of the test fees. For applicants residing outside Hong Kong, you can pay in bank draft in Hong Kong dollars issued by your local bank. Please make sure that the bank draft issued by that bank can be drawn on Hong Kong. If not, the Centre has the right to reject your registration. The applicant also needs to bear any extra charges incurred. The bank draft should be made payable to "The University of Hong Kong" (iii) 2 recent passport sized photos (with white background). Do not staple them on the registration form. The photos are needed for the admission ticket, and score reports for the Written Test Levels 4, 5, 6 and all levels of Speaking Tests. (iv) A stamped (HK$2.80) and self-addressed envelope for our Centre to post the test package to the candidate. If by mailing, please send the registration form and other required documents to the following address, specifying "Test Application" on the envelope.
3. Unless the test is cancelled, fees paid are not refundable.
